The WEA test will be transmitted to all consumer cell phones, marking the third nationwide test. Meanwhile, the EAS test will be distributed to radios and televisions, making it the seventh nationwide EAS test. FEMA and the FCC are actively collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure the preparedness of these systems for this crucial test.

The primary objective of this exercise is to verify the effectiveness of these warning systems, especially in the context of national emergencies. In the event of postponement due to severe weather or other unforeseen circumstances, the backup date for the test is October 11th. The initiation of the WEA test will utilize FEMA’s IPAWS, an internet-based system that empowers authorities to send authenticated emergency messages to the public.
