Joliet, IL – Authorities in Will County uncovered an alleged stolen vehicle operation using Facebook Marketplace to sell car parts, following a search warrant executed Tuesday at a residence on the 1500 block of California Avenue.
According to the Tri-County Auto Theft Task Force, investigators discovered 30 vehicles in the backyard of the property, which was allegedly operating as an illegal automotive salvage yard. Among the recovered items were 11 stolen motor vehicles, a stolen trailer, and a Kubota tractor. Officials also located devices commonly used to alter odometers and reprogram vehicle keys.
Investigators say the stolen vehicle parts were being sold on Facebook Marketplace. The property owner, 38-year-old Oluwafemi Malachi, has been charged with aggravated possession of a stolen motor vehicle and 11 counts of possessing stolen motor vehicles. He was processed at the Joliet Police Department and released on a Notice to Appear. Additional charges are expected.
The Task Force thanked the Joliet Police Department, Joliet 911 Communication Center, and Rendels Towing for their support in the operation.
