Baltimore, MD – A winter storm is set to impact portions of Maryland and Virginia with up to 4 inches of snow by Sunday evening.
According to the National Weather Service, snow will begin early Sunday morning and intensify throughout the day, with snowfall rates possibly reaching 1 inch per hour at times. The heaviest snow is expected in central and northern Maryland, as well as areas of northern Virginia, before tapering off by 7 p.m. Sunday.
Temperatures are expected to drop into the teens Sunday night, creating hazardous conditions as any remaining moisture on roadways freezes. Officials warn that travel could be treacherous during the storm, particularly during peak accumulation periods in the afternoon.
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for these areas, urging residents to slow down and exercise caution while traveling. To stay updated on road conditions, drivers are encouraged to call 511 for real-time updates in their area.
Snowfall is anticipated to total between 2 and 4 inches, with localized areas possibly receiving up to 5 inches. This storm marks one of the season’s more significant events, bringing potentially difficult travel and widespread impacts.
