Hammond, LA – A Hammond woman was killed Tuesday night in a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 22 near Edwards Road in Tangipahoa Parish as a winter storm impacted road conditions.

According to Louisiana State Police, the crash occurred around 8:10 p.m. and involved 65-year-old Peggy J. Williams, who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer eastbound. Investigators determined that Williams’ vehicle crossed the centerline, colliding head-on with a 2011 Ford F-150 driven by Kody A. Lacour of Picayune, Mississippi.

Williams, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she later died. Lacour, who was also unrestrained, sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment.

Authorities noted that icy conditions from the winter storm may have contributed to the crash. Additionally, police determined that Lacour was impaired and arrested him on charges of First Offense DWI and Obstruction of a Court Order.

Troopers remind motorists to avoid driving during hazardous weather, always wear seat belts, and never operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
