San Diego, CA – A powerful winter storm is set to blanket the San Bernardino and Riverside County mountains with heavy snow and strong winds, starting Saturday afternoon and continuing through Monday.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm will bring total snow accumulations ranging from 3-6 inches above 4,000 feet to up to 24 inches at elevations above 7,500 feet. Winds gusting up to 55 mph are expected today into early Sunday, creating dangerous travel conditions and potential whiteouts.
The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 p.m. Monday. Areas like Big Bear Lake, Lake Arrowhead, and Running Springs are likely to see the heaviest snowfall. Roads, including bridges and overpasses, could become extremely slick and hazardous, especially during Mondayâ€s morning commute.
Travelers are urged to avoid unnecessary trips and keep emergency supplies, such as flashlights and food, in their vehicles. For those who must drive, extreme caution is advised.
For updated road conditions, call 511 or check local resources. Residents should also prepare for sudden drops in visibility and power outages. Ensure vehicles are winter-ready, and avoid sudden braking or acceleration on icy roads.
