Birmingham, AL – A winter storm is impacting Alabama, bringing snow and dangerously cold temperatures to areas south of Interstate 20 and Interstate 85. Snowfall is expected to accumulate up to 4 inches in southern regions, with lighter amounts elsewhere.

According to the National Weather Service, areas along and south of I-85 are under a Winter Storm Warning through Wednesday morning. Cities including Montgomery and Troy could see 2 to 3 inches of snow, while Mobile and Dothan may receive up to 4 inches. A Winter Weather Advisory is in place for areas south of I-20, where snowfall will be minimal but still poses hazards.

Temperatures as low as 15°F are creating icy conditions, particularly on bridges and rural roads. Reports of light snow grains and flurries have already been noted. Snowfall will continue throughout the day as the atmosphere becomes saturated.

Residents are advised to use caution while traveling and prepare for delays. Officials urge staying indoors, protecting exposed pipes, and monitoring local updates for changing road conditions. The advisory extends through 9 a.m. Wednesday.
