Winter Storm Watch Issued for North Idaho and Northeast Washington

Spokane, WA – A winter storm watch has been issued for parts of northern Idaho and northeast Washington, with heavy snowfall expected from late Thursday night through Saturday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Spokane, valley areas could see between 3 to 8 inches of snow, while mountainous regions may receive 1 to 2 feet. The affected areas include Priest River, Sandpoint, Colville, Bonners Ferry, and Deer Park.

Motorists should be prepared for winter driving conditions, especially in higher elevations. Some areas in Stevens and Pend Oreille counties could see highly variable snow accumulations, with southern portions receiving just a couple of inches while northern areas may get more than 8 inches.

Stevens Pass Bracing for Heavy Snow

A separate winter storm watch has been issued for Stevens Pass, where snow totals could range between 18 and 30 inches from Thursday evening through Saturday. The NWS warns of snowfall rates up to an inch per hour Friday morning through evening, creating hazardous travel conditions.

Snow Expected in Central Idaho Panhandle

The Central Panhandle Mountains, including St. Maries, Wallace, and Lookout Pass, are also under a winter storm watch. Valley areas could see 1 to 4 inches of snow, while mountain locations may receive between 8 and 15 inches. Travelers heading over Lookout Pass should monitor forecasts closely.

Residents are advised to prepare for winter conditions, check road conditions before traveling, and stay updated on the latest forecasts.
