New Orleans, LA – A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from late Monday through Tuesday evening, impacting parts of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi. Authorities warn of heavy snow and potential ice accumulations, creating dangerous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall totals may reach 4 to 8 inches along and north of the I-10 and I-12 corridors, with 2 to 6 inches south of those areas. Ice accumulation is also possible in southern regions. Bridges, overpasses, and roads could become slick and hazardous, especially during Tuesday’s morning and evening commutes.
Residents are urged to prepare by monitoring weather updates and avoiding unnecessary travel. Those who must travel should carry a winter survival kit, including blankets, water, and emergency supplies.
The storm is expected to bring its strongest impacts overnight Monday into Tuesday. Officials recommend staying indoors during peak storm hours and delaying nonessential travel. This is the first significant winter weather event of the year for the Gulf Coast, highlighting the importance of preparation and caution.
