Grand Rapids, MI – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for portions of central and west-central Michigan, lasting until 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Snowfall of up to 2 additional inches and wind gusts reaching 40 mph are expected to create hazardous travel conditions. Affected areas include cities such as Big Rapids, Clare, Hart, and Ludington.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory will likely disrupt Monday evening commutes with slippery roads and reduced visibility. Drivers are urged to slow down and exercise caution while traveling.

Counties under the advisory include Mason, Lake, Osceola, Clare, Oceana, Newaygo, and Mecosta. Gusty winds could exacerbate issues, potentially creating drifting snow and difficulty for vehicles on rural and open roads.

Residents are advised to plan ahead, allowing extra time for travel and ensuring their vehicles are equipped for winter weather. Those on foot should be mindful of icy sidewalks and reduced visibility in blowing snow.

The advisory is set to expire by early Tuesday, but conditions may remain challenging overnight as temperatures drop. For updated road conditions, travelers should consult Michigan’s Department of Transportation resources.
