Austin, TX – A winter storm warning remains in effect for the I-35 corridor and surrounding areas through 6 p.m. Tuesday, as snow and sleet continue to impact travel. Drivers in South Central Texas are urged to delay non-essential travel, with freezing precipitation creating dangerous road conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, icy accumulations could reach up to 1.5 inches in some areas, with slick roads expected on bridges and overpasses. Wind chill values are forecasted to drop as low as 15 degrees overnight, creating additional risks for prolonged exposure.
The cold front is expected to move out of the region by Tuesday night, bringing clearing skies and a low near 21 degrees. Roads may remain icy into Wednesday morning, so commuters should allow extra travel time and check local updates before heading out.
Looking ahead, Wednesday will see sunny conditions with a high of 51 degrees, while Thursday and Friday offer clear skies and highs in the mid-50s to low-60s. Weekend forecasts predict mostly cloudy weather and a 20 percent chance of showers.
Safety officials advise residents to wear layered clothing, limit outdoor exposure, and keep pets indoors. Motorists traveling the I-35 corridor should carry emergency supplies, including blankets and water, in case of delays. For the latest road conditions, visit drivetexas.org or call 800-452-9292.
