Wisconsin and Minnesota Brace for -45°F Wind Chills Until Tuesday Afternoon

Duluth, MN –An extreme cold warning remains in effect for northern Minnesota and Wisconsin, with wind chills plummeting as low as 45 degrees below zero. The warning, issued by the National Weather Service, extends until noon CST Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service, affected areas include Crow Wing, St. Louis, Cass, Cook, and Lake Counties in Minnesota, along with Price, Bayfield, and Iron Counties in Wisconsin. Tribal lands and notable landmarks such as Voyageurs National Park, the Boundary Waters, and Apostle Islands National Lakeshore are also under the advisory.

The most severe conditions are expected overnight and early morning hours, when exposed skin can develop frostbite within 10 minutes. Hypothermia risks are significant, and prolonged cold could rupture water pipes.

Residents are urged to dress in layers, covering exposed skin with hats, face masks, and gloves. Pets should remain indoors, and portable heaters must be used with caution. Officials also recommend checking on elderly neighbors and ensuring safety precautions for outdoor activities.
