Wisconsin Bomb Squad Responds to Suspicious Item in Racine County Jail

Racine, WI – Authorities investigated a suspicious item left in the lobby of the Racine County Jail on Friday afternoon.

The Racine County Sheriff’s Office requested help from the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad (KESO) at 2:30 p.m. after discovering the item. Bomb technicians quickly responded and used X-ray technology to examine the item.

According to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office, the package was not an explosive device and posed no threat. Officials stated the individual responsible for leaving the item made concerning remarks about its contents. The person allegedly claimed the item had a bomb and expressed intentions to “blow up” the building.

Despite the alarming comments, the bomb squad determined the item was harmless.

The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad serves Kenosha, Racine, and Walworth Counties, addressing potential explosive threats. The unit is one of six in Wisconsin and part of 450 similar squads nationwide.

Local law enforcement praised the team for their prompt response, which ensured the safety of the community.
