Medford, WI – Residents in Clark and Taylor counties are under a Cold Weather Advisory until midnight Monday, followed by an Extreme Cold Warning lasting through noon Tuesday. Temperatures combined with strong winds are expected to create dangerously low wind chills, dropping as low as 40 below zero.

According to the National Weather Service, frostbite can occur in just 10 minutes on exposed skin during these conditions. Residents in cities like Medford and Neillsville are advised to remain indoors when possible.

The Cold Weather Advisory currently in effect warns of wind chills between 25 and 35 below zero. Starting at midnight Monday night, the wind chill will worsen, prompting the Extreme Cold Warning.

Travelers and outdoor workers should take extra precautions. Dress in warm, layered clothing, and cover exposed areas such as your face and hands. If outside, limit your time and avoid prolonged exposure.

Officials also recommend checking on elderly neighbors and ensuring pets are brought indoors. The extreme cold is expected to ease by Tuesday afternoon as temperatures slowly rise.
