Woman Critically Injured, Man Arrested for Intoxication Assault After High-speed Crash in Corpus Christi
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A serious single-vehicle crash late Saturday night left a 47-year-old woman hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and led to the arrest of a man for intoxication assault.
Police responded to the accident at South Padre Island Drive and Airline Road, where they found a heavily damaged car on the overpass. Firefighters rescued the injured woman, who was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
The driver, 46-year-old Stephen Sims, was located nearby after attempting to flee.
Officers observed signs of intoxication, and witnesses reported the vehicle was speeding westbound, ran a red light, hit a curb and light pole, and flipped. Sims was arrested after being medically cleared.
