A man is in custody after an extremely dangerous attempt to flee police by driving the wrong direction without headlights on several Southern California freeways Wednesday night.
It’s unclear exactly what the man, who was behind the wheel of a red pickup truck, was originally wanted for, but officers with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division initiated the pursuit in the Pacoima area just before 10 p.m.
Preliminary reports suggested that the suspect was wanted for being armed with a gun, though the chase took a turn when the suspect began driving the wrong way on the 118 and later the 5 freeways with no headlights.
Police terminated the pursuit and began tracking the suspect, who eventually exited the freeway onto Lauren Canyon Boulevard, from the air.
The driver made his way to an alleyway off Roscoe Boulevard and Web Avenue, stopped the truck and ran into the backyard of a nearby home.
