Cheyenne, WY – Cheyenne residents should prepare for dangerously cold weather and potential snow as a strong arctic front is set to arrive Friday. Subzero temperatures and widespread snowfall are forecast, which could cause hazardous road conditions, particularly along major routes like I-25 and I-80.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Cheyenne, a brief warm-up with sunny skies is expected Wednesday and Thursday, with highs reaching the 40s and low 50s. However, this mild stretch will end Friday when an arctic cold front brings freezing temperatures, gusty winds, and accumulating snow.
Wind chills are expected to plummet overnight Friday, reaching below zero across southeastern Wyoming. Daytime highs this weekend will struggle to reach the single digits, with overnight lows dipping to -10°F or colder. Blowing snow may reduce visibility, making travel particularly risky late Friday through Saturday.
The NWS warns that widespread icy conditions and freezing wind chills pose a risk to exposed skin, and residents should limit outdoor activities. Motorists are urged to check road conditions frequently and pack emergency supplies when traveling.
By mid-week, conditions will be calmer, offering a chance to prepare before the cold weather hits. The early-week warmth will help melt residual snow from previous storms but could create slick spots when temperatures drop.
This week’s temperature swing underscores the need for winter weather preparedness. Residents should secure outdoor items, keep homes stocked with essentials, and dress appropriately for frigid conditions.
