Laramie, WY – Strong winds are sweeping across southeastern Wyoming, with a High Wind Warning in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday for the Laramie Valley and North Snowy Range Foothills, including Arlington and Elk Mountain.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, southwest winds will range from 20 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching 60 mph. A High Wind Watch remains in place for Arlington and Elk Mountain along Interstate 80 from late Tuesday night through Wednesday afternoon, with gusts potentially increasing to 40 mph sustained and 60 mph gusts.
The primary concern is for transportation, especially for lightweight or high-profile vehicles, including campers and tractor-trailers. Strong crosswinds could create hazardous driving conditions, particularly along Interstate 80.
Drivers are urged to exercise caution, secure loose outdoor items, and prepare for sudden gusts. The Wyoming Department of Transportation advises travelers to check road conditions before heading out.
Winds are expected to subside by Wednesday evening, bringing relief to the affected areas.
