Jackson, WY – A major winter storm is set to impact western and central Wyoming from Friday afternoon through Sunday, with up to 48 inches of snow expected in higher elevations, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Riverton.
The Winter Storm Watch affects Yellowstone National Park, Jackson Hole, Star Valley, the Wind River Mountains, and surrounding regions. Lower elevations could see 8 to 16 inches of snow, while mountain areas—including Yellowstone—may receive 2 to 4 feet.
According to the NWS, the storm will bring gusty winds, blowing snow, and hazardous travel conditions. Roads are expected to become slick quickly, with low visibility and snow drifts making driving difficult. Additional advisories could extend into early next week if conditions persist.
Travel and Safety Precautions
• Avoid unnecessary travel, especially in mountainous areas.
• Check Wyoming Department of Transportation updates at wyoroad.info.
• Prepare for power outages and limited visibility in high-impact areas.
