Omaha, NE – A prolonged blast of winter weather is set to grip Nebraska, bringing snow, gusty winds, and dangerously low wind chills through Friday.

According to the National Weather Service Omaha/Valley, blowing snow will continue Saturday, with temperatures dropping significantly by Sunday. Wind chills are expected to range from -15°F to -35°F, posing risks of frostbite and hypothermia for unprepared residents.

Snow chances will increase Monday and Tuesday, with a 50-90% likelihood of accumulation, especially in southeast Nebraska. High temperatures will hover between 0°F and 18°F for much of the week, with early morning wind chills dipping below -30°F through Thursday.

Authorities urge residents to limit outdoor exposure, dress in layers, and keep emergency supplies in vehicles. Travelers should monitor road conditions closely, as visibility may be reduced due to blowing snow. Southeast Nebraska is expected to see the highest snow totals by midweek.

This stretch of severe cold is unusual for mid-February, with wind chill values reminiscent of record lows from past winters. The NWS advises staying updated on forecasts as conditions may change rapidly.
