Beloved Brentwood Restaurant A.O.C Shutting Its Doors After 16-Year Run

BRENTWOOD, CALIFORNIA — A.O.C. Brentwood, a beloved Westside dining spot from renowned chef Suzanne Goin and restaurateur Caroline Styne, is set to close its doors in August after 16 years of operation.

The owners cited untenable financial pressures as the primary reason for the closure, with the challenges facing independent restaurants in Los Angeles taking a toll.

The Restaurant’s Legacy

Located at 11648 San Vicente Blvd. in Brentwood, A.O.C. was originally opened as Tavern in 2008 before being rebranded under the A.O.C. name.

Over the years, the restaurant became a staple on the Westside, known for its elegant setting and seasonal small plates that blended California-inspired cuisine with a casual yet refined dining experience.

A.O.C. was particularly well-regarded for its cheese and wine bar, offering guests a diverse selection of artisanal cheeses, wines, and tapas-style dishes.

It quickly became a neighborhood favorite, attracting a loyal following who appreciated its commitment to high-quality, locally sourced ingredients.

What the Owners Are Saying

In a statement shared on social media Friday, Goin and Styne expressed their sorrow over the closure and highlighted a series of challenges that contributed to the decision.

“Sadly, the reasons are no surprise and are affecting most independent restaurants in Los Angeles,” the statement read. “The aftereffects of COVID-19, followed by the actors’ and writers’ strikes, and then the fires, paired with unsustainably high rents, rising costs of goods and labor, and mounting bureaucracy, have made it impossible to keep our doors open.”

They went on to express their love for the Brentwood community, the restaurant’s staff—both past and present—and their many loyal customers. “We have loved our time as part of the Brentwood community; we love our staff, past and present, and we are grateful to our many loyal customers,” the post continued. “We hope to see you over these next six weeks and raise a glass to our long run on the Westside.”

Closure Details

A.O.C. Brentwood will remain open through July, with the final day of service scheduled for August 1, 2025.

The owners confirmed that their A.O.C. location on West Third Street in West Hollywood will continue to operate, allowing fans of the restaurant to still enjoy their signature dishes at the other location.

Supporting Independent Restaurants

In their statement, Goin and Styne also called for public support of independent restaurants, many of which are facing similar challenges.

They specifically mentioned the work of advocacy groups like the Independent Hospitality Coalition and the Independent Restaurant Coalition, which advocate for the survival of small, locally-owned businesses in the restaurant industry.

“If you can, please go out and support places you love, not just the hot new ones, but your old favorites too,” the statement encouraged, urging diners to consider the difficulties many beloved eateries face.

A Fond Farewell

The closure of A.O.C. Brentwood marks the end of an era for the restaurant and its many patrons. For nearly two decades, it has been a go-to spot for Westside residents, food lovers, and wine enthusiasts alike.

As Goin and Styne prepare for their final service, they remain grateful for the community’s support over the years and encourage their loyal customers to visit one last time before the restaurant shuts its doors.
