TSA Introduces New Screening Lane, Expands Support for Military Personnel

Washington, D.C. — The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is rolling out significant updates to its airport security procedures, aiming to make travel easier for service members and their families.

These changes will begin at select airports on Tuesday, marking a major step forward in recognizing the contributions of the military community.

New Security Lane for Active-Duty Service Members

In an effort to streamline the airport security process, TSA will introduce a new security lane specifically for active-duty service members.

This change will be implemented at airports located near military installations, including locations in San Antonio, Texas; Anchorage, Alaska; Atlanta, Georgia; Austin, Texas; Colorado Springs, Colorado; El Paso, Texas; Fayetteville, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; San Diego, California; and Seattle, Washington.

These lanes are designed to expedite the screening process for military personnel, making it easier for them to travel while in uniform. With roughly 1.13 million active-duty service members, the TSA aims to ensure they experience a smoother, more efficient travel experience.

TSA PreCheck Discounts for Service Members and Families

In addition to the new security lanes, the TSA is offering special TSA PreCheck benefits to military service members and their families.

Gold Star Families, who have lost a loved one in the line of duty, will receive a waiver for the TSA PreCheck enrollment fee. This benefit also extends to TSA PreCheck through providers like CLEAR, IDEMIA, and Telos.

Moreover, active-duty service members will receive a $25 discount on the TSA PreCheck fee. TSA PreCheck offers faster and more convenient screening, reducing the time and hassle involved in security checks at airports.

Expedited Screening for Military Personnel

Active-duty Department of Defense (DoD) service members and civilian DoD staff already benefit from complimentary TSA PreCheck.

This move further extends TSA’s commitment to easing the travel process for those who serve, with a special emphasis on creating an expedited experience for service members in uniform.

TSA Acting Administrator Ha Nguyen McNeill shared her thoughts on the changes: “This Independence Day and beyond, TSA reaffirms its commitment to ease travel for the military community through its TSA PreCheck program, by providing it free to Gold Star families, discounting it for active-duty spouses and creating expedited lanes for service members in uniform.”

Formal Announcement of the Initiative

The “Serve with Honor, Travel with Ease” initiative will be officially unveiled in San Antonio, Texas, on Wednesday, ahead of the Fourth of July travel rush. TSA aims to make air travel more accessible for military families, offering them the recognition and ease they deserve.

With the Fourth of July weekend expected to be a busy travel time, TSA is making these changes to ensure that military personnel and their families have a smoother and more convenient experience at airports.
