Louisville, KY – Bitterly cold temperatures grip Kentucky today, with highs struggling to reach the mid-20s and wind chills plunging below zero this morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of isolated flurries beginning Thursday afternoon and a potential wintry mix late Sunday.
According to the NWS Louisville office, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. today for areas across southern Indiana and central Kentucky. Residents are urged to dress in layers, limit time outdoors, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Flurries may develop late Thursday, but no significant accumulation is expected.
Temperatures will slowly warm by the weekend, reaching the 40s by Saturday. A mix of rain and snow is possible Sunday evening into Monday, potentially causing slick roads on highways like I-65 and I-71. Drivers should remain cautious during peak travel times.
The five-day outlook includes:
• Thursday: Isolated flurries, highs near 34°F. Lows dip to 19°F overnight.
• Friday: Mostly sunny and dry, highs around 28°F.
• Saturday: Milder conditions with highs near 44°F under partly cloudy skies.
• Sunday: A wintry mix is possible, with highs near 42°F. Precipitation chances increase in the evening.
Plan ahead to stay warm and monitor updates from the NWS for the latest developments.
