Caribou, ME – Residents in Aroostook County should prepare for another frigid night as temperatures plunge below zero Friday night. High pressure will deliver clear skies, but the cold air will persist with lows around -7°F.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, Saturday will bring sunshine with highs reaching 16°F. However, an approaching disturbance will increase cloud cover Saturday night and lead to snow showers Sunday, primarily in northern Maine. Temperatures Sunday will climb to 25°F, but gusty south winds may make it feel much colder.
Snow showers are expected to begin late Sunday morning, bringing up to two inches of accumulation in some areas. Drivers should exercise caution on local roadways, including U.S. Route 1, as visibility may be reduced.
The pattern takes a dramatic turn Monday night as an Arctic front arrives, pushing temperatures even lower. Snow showers will likely continue through Tuesday morning, with highs struggling to reach 20°F. Another wave of bitter cold is forecast midweek, with lows dropping near -9°F.
Residents should plan to dress in layers and monitor local advisories for updates on snow totals and wind chill alerts. Ensure pets are sheltered and outdoor pipes are insulated to prevent freezing.
This extended cold snap reinforces the need for winter preparedness, as more Arctic air is likely in the coming weeks.
