Billings, MT – A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for portions of central and southern Montana, including the Melville Foothills, Golden Valley, Judith Gap, Musselshell, and Southern Wheatland, from Thursday afternoon through Friday evening.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Billings, heavy snowfall of 4 to 8 inches is possible, with the heaviest accumulation expected on Friday. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in place until noon Thursday for the Melville Foothills, where blowing snow and wind gusts up to 45 mph could create hazardous travel conditions.

Major routes affected include US-191 through Melville, Highway 12 from Harlowton to Roundup, and roads near Judith Gap. Reduced visibility and drifting snow may lead to difficult driving conditions, especially during morning and evening commutes.

Residents should monitor updates and prepare for winter travel by allowing extra time and checking road conditions. For real-time travel updates, call 511 or visit NWS Billings.
