Sioux Falls, SD – Residents in eastern South Dakota are facing dangerously cold conditions, with wind chills as low as -30°F through Wednesday morning. A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday, impacting parts of northwest Iowa, southwest Minnesota, and southeastern South Dakota.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Sioux Falls, the bitter cold will continue, with single-digit highs and subzero lows through midweek. Light snow is expected Tuesday night into Wednesday, with accumulations of up to 3 inches, primarily along I-29.

Thursday will see some sunshine, but temperatures will remain well below average, with highs near 15°F. Another round of light snow is possible Friday, with highs climbing to the upper 20s. Wind chills will continue to pose a frostbite risk throughout the week.

Residents should wear layers, limit outdoor exposure, and ensure pets are indoors. Travelers should check road conditions before heading out. The cold snap is expected to last through the weekend, with slightly warmer temperatures by Sunday.
