Attempted Dispensary Robbery in South LA Leaves One Dead, One Hospitalized

South Los Angeles, California- A robbery attempt turned deadly late Thursday night outside a marijuana dispensary in South Los Angeles, leaving one man dead and another recovering in the hospital. Authorities say two suspects remain on the run.

The incident occurred around 11:40 p.m. on June 26, 2025, in the 9000 block of Compton Avenue, near 91st Street, in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood.

According to Lt. Steve De Jon with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) homicide bureau, two male victims were seated inside a black Ford Expedition parked in front of a dispensary when two male suspects approached on foot and attempted to rob them. A struggle ensued, and both victims exited the vehicle. At that point, one of the suspects opened fire, hitting both men.

The Aftermath:

One victim, described as a Hispanic adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was rushed to the hospital, where he is currently in stable condition.

What Happened Next:

In the aftermath of the shooting, investigators reported that a silver Acura pulled up to the scene, possibly to assist the victims. However, the two suspects carjacked the vehicle, taking the car and fleeing the scene. The driver and passenger inside the Acura were unharmed.

Authorities have yet to locate the suspects, and they are still at large.

What We Don’t Know:

As of now, authorities have not released the names of the victims or the suspects involved in the shooting. It remains unclear whether the victims and suspects knew each other or if the robbery was a random act.

Lt. Steve De Jon confirmed that homicide detectives are leading the ongoing investigation into the incident.
