Black Sabbath to reunite for farewell concert
A big announcement from an iconic rock band.
The original Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward, will reunite and perform for the first time in 20 years for a final show.
The show is called “Back to the Beginning” and will take place at Villa Park in the band’s hometown of Birmingham, England. It will include performances by Osbourne, Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Halestorm, Alice in Chains, Lamb of God, Anthrax and Mastodon.
“It’s my time to go Back to the Beginning….time for me to give back to the place where I was born,” Osbourne said. “How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love? Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham Forever.”
The all-day event will include additional performances by Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins, Slash from Guns ‘n Roses, Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit, Sammy Hagar, Wolfgang Van Halen, Jonathan Davis of Korn and more.
“Formed in Birmingham in 1968 and going on to become one of the most successful metal bands of all time, Black Sabbath has sold over 75 million albums worldwide across their legendary career,” the announcement on Instagram read. “Setting the blueprint for the many routes heavy metal took, Black Sabbath’s influence and importance is as vital today as it was in the early 1970s.”
The concert will take place on July 5 and tickets are set to go on sale on Feb. 14 at 10:00 a.m. GMT at LiveNation.co.uk. Profits from the show will go to charities in England.
