Brooklyn, New York – A dangerous gang that police say terrorized Brooklyn neighborhoods through a string of violent shootings is now off the streets following a major gang takedown effort by the New York City Police Department.
Nine Members of ‘Road to Riches’ Gang Charged
Officials announced Thursday that nine individuals, all between the ages of 17 and 20, have been charged in a 68-count conspiracy indictment.
They are reportedly members of the Road to Riches gang (R2R), a group responsible for at least 10 shootings, including a homicide.
“It’s a dangerous crew. I take no satisfaction in arresting teenagers, but this crew—they’re rash, they’re impulsive,” said Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.
Surveillance footage from East New York and Brownsville shows members of the gang firing weapons in public areas, sparking fear among residents.
City Leaders Speak Out
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated,
“Every single subject charged in the case has been involved in a shooting.”
Mayor Eric Adams added,
“These nine gang members—it’s not only an indictment on their actions, but an indictment on our city.”
Progress in Reducing Gun Violence
Despite the disturbing statistics, officials say Brooklyn is seeing improvements in overall gun crime:
- Homicides: Down 33%
- Shooting Incidents: Down 20%
- Shooting Victims: Down 15%
The NYPD has conducted more than 40 gang takedowns this year alone, leading to over 300 arrests and the seizure of 230 illegal firearms.

Alarming Trends Among Youth
Police are still deeply concerned about rising youth involvement in gun violence. Since 2018:
- Gun arrests of children: Up 136%
- Confirmed shooters under 18: Up 92%
- Young victims of gun violence: Up 81%
Commissioner Tisch said,
“Gangs have adapted by targeting younger recruits. The numbers speak for themselves.”
A Message to NYC Youth
In closing, DA Gonzalez offered hope:
“We are willing to offer services. We’re willing to meet you halfway—if you lay down your guns.”
