Human Remains Discovered at Site of Northern California Fireworks Explosion

Esparto, CA — Authorities confirmed Friday that human remains have been found at the site of a devastating fireworks explosion and fire earlier this week in the rural community of Esparto, just northwest of Sacramento.

The discovery was made by the Yolo County Coroner’s Office, which said positive identifications are still pending and recovery efforts will continue through the weekend.

Recovery and Investigation Ongoing

The explosion occurred Tuesday night and triggered a chain of fireworks detonations, engulfing the building in flames and sparking additional spot fires in the area, according to Esparto Fire Chief Curtis Lawrence.

The building collapsed, and two individuals were injured and treated at local medical facilities. No updates on their condition have been released.

In coordination with Cal Fire, the Office of the State Fire Marshal, and the Esparto Fire Protection District, investigators are working to determine what caused the explosion.

Families Await Identification

The Yolo County Coroner’s Office has contacted the families of those reported missing and assured that no victim names will be released until identities are confirmed and next of kin are notified.

“We are committed to ensuring that families are kept informed as we gather more details,” the county said in a press release Friday afternoon.
