Chicago, IL – Termite infestations remain a growing problem in several Midwest cities, according to Orkin’s 2025 termite report. Chicago (#13), Indianapolis (#28), and Detroit (#45) rank among the worst termite-infested cities in the U.S.

Miami, Los Angeles, and Tampa hold the top three spots for the third straight year. Houston moved into the top 10, while Oklahoma City and Waco appeared in the top 50 for the first time. Grand Rapids, MI (#46) and Cincinnati (#32) also made the list.

Experts say rising temperatures and dry conditions increase termite activity. Homeowners should look for swarming insects, mud tubes, and hollow-sounding wood. Termites cause billions in damage yearly, often going undetected until it’s too late.

To prevent infestations, Orkin advises homeowners to seal gaps, remove rotting wood, and maintain drainage systems. Regular inspections help catch problems early.
