Houston, TX – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Houston/Galveston has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for coastal waters from Freeport to Matagorda Ship Channel and from High Island to Freeport. The advisory remains in effect until noon Thursday.

According to the NWS, dense fog is expected to reduce visibility to 1 nautical mile or less, making navigation difficult. While some improvement may occur during the afternoon, fog is expected to worsen overnight, impacting visibility in the bays and along the coastline.

Boaters are advised to exercise extreme caution, use fog signals, and ensure all navigation lights are on. Mariners should rely on radar and compass navigation to maintain safety.

The NWS warns that low visibility can create hazardous conditions for vesselsoperating in the affected areas. If travel by boat is necessary, slow speeds and heightened awareness are recommended.
