Mayor Bass says power has been restored to nearly all homes able to receive service in Palisades Fire zone
Public works crews are close to reaching a significant wildfire recovery milestone, according to Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.
That significant step is the restoration of power to nearly all homes in the Palisades Fire zone that were able to have power restored, Bass announced Tuesday.
“LADWP has been working around the clock to restore power to the Palisades area, and their work has paid off,” the mayor stated. “Restoring power to customers in areas around the heaviest burned locations will continue to be the biggest challenge moving forward, but as we continue to work urgently on recovery efforts, LADWP will continue to meet the needs of this unprecedented disaster.”
Restoring power to homes is not easy; as the mayor’s office explained, crews must first verify each residential electrical panel to ensure power is restored, and once it is, they will leave a notice for residents to turn on their main circuit at the panel.
Some individual restorations may take more time based on the complexity of the repairs, which can only be identified once power is temporarily restored.
“If your home or business remains without power, please first check your circuit breakers,” LADWP officials advised. “For customers whose homes or businesses were damaged or destroyed in the fire and receive a past-due notice, please disregard it.”
Workers are also continuing to make progress on restoring water service and ensuring good water quality in the Pacific Palisades. A Do Not Drink notice remains in effect for most of the Palisades (ZIP code 90272) and the surrounding communities, and Pacific Coast Highway remains closed to the general public.
