Amarillo, TX – Freezing Drizzle, Snow Expected Across Texas Panhandle Through Wednesday

Freezing drizzle and light snow are expected to impact the Texas Panhandle starting Monday evening, bringing hazardous travel conditions. Light ice accumulation and snowfall could make roads and sidewalks slippery, with conditions persisting until midday Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, a hatched area in the southeastern Panhandle has the highest chance of freezing drizzle, with at least 0.01 inches of ice possible. Snowfall totals have shifted further north, with areas near Guymon and Boise City expected to see 1 to 2 inches of snow, while Perryton could receive up to 1 inch.

Icy conditions will likely affect Amarillo, Clarendon, and Wheeler, while snow will impact northern areas. Drivers should exercise caution, particularly in low-visibility zones. The best chance for snow accumulation is between 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Officials urge residents to monitor weather updates and prepare for slick roads. If traveling, allow extra time and use caution in affected areas.
