Wrong-way driver causes fatal crash, shuts down SB 405 in Sherman Oaks

A deadly crash involving a wrong-way driver closed all southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway in Sherman Oaks heading into the Sepulveda Pass Tuesday morning.

The incident was reported just after 4 a.m. when a wrong-way driver was spotted traveling northbound on the southbound side of the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A few minutes later, a three to four-vehicle crash was reported near Valley Vista Boulevard and was blocking several lanes of the freeway.

The CHP confirmed one person was killed as a result of the crash and at least one other person was transported in unknown condition.

There was no immediate word on the identities of the victims or which vehicles they were traveling in.

A SigAlert was issued for the closure of all southbound lanes shortly before 4:30 a.m.

It was unclear how long the lanes will remain closed.
