L.A. Crime Alert: Shooting Victim Identified in Ballona Creek

A man found dead from a gunshot wound, recovered from a shed-like structure beneath the Culver Boulevard bridge at the Ballona Creek flood control channel, was officially identified on Wednesday by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office.

The victim, Anthony Quinn Ussery, aged 49 and experiencing homelessness, was discovered on Saturday by a team of lifeguards, fire personnel, and a swift water rescue team. LAPD Officer Tony Im confirmed he had been shot.

According to the medical examiner’s report, Ussery had a gunshot wound to his torso, and further details were not immediately available.

Emergency responders were dispatched to 13551 W. Culver Blvd. at approximately 10:40 a.m. on Saturday, as reported by the Los Angeles Fire Department.
