Jackson, MS – Residents across central Mississippi should brace for another cold night following a sunny day Friday with highs reaching the mid to upper 40s. Clear skies tonight will drive temperatures into the low 20s across the region, particularly near Brookhaven and Yazoo City, making frost likely in most areas.
According to the National Weather Service, calm winds tonight could create hazardous conditions for exposed pipes and sensitive plants. Experts recommend covering outdoor vegetation and dripping faucets overnight to avoid damage.
On Saturday, Mississippi will see a gradual warm-up, with highs in the low to mid-50s under mostly sunny skies. Areas near Jackson and Vicksburg along I-55 may experience light cloud cover by the afternoon, with increasing clouds building statewide Saturday night. A 20% chance of showers is expected after midnight, particularly along the Highway 49 corridor.
Sunday brings the first significant rain of the week, with a 60% chance of showers developing by late morning. Rainfall could total up to an inch in some areas, potentially leading to slick roadways and visibility issues. Showers will persist into Sunday night, with overnight lows in the 40s.
Looking ahead, Monday remains cloudy with a chance of scattered showers, while Tuesday promises drier conditions with highs nearing 63°F. Drivers are urged to use caution on wet roads this weekend and stay updated on changing conditions via local forecasts.
