Quad Cities, IA/IL – A winter storm warning has been issued for much of Iowa and Illinois from 6 a.m. Wednesday until 3 a.m. Thursday, bringing the potential for over 6 inches of snow and hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Quad Cities, snowfall is expected to begin early Wednesday morning, intensify in the afternoon, and taper off overnight. Areas in southeastern Iowa and northern Missouri could see the heaviest accumulation, with some locations receiving more than 6 inches.
Travelers are urged to prepare for dangerous road conditions, reduced visibility, and strong winds, which could create drifting snow. Officials advise allowing extra travel time and checking local road conditions before heading out.
Residents in affected areas can monitor updates through 511ia.org for Iowa and gettingaroundillinois.com for Illinois. Snowfall rates may be heavy at times, impacting the evening commute.
Authorities encourage residents to stock up on essentials and avoid unnecessary travel as conditions worsen. The NWS will continue to provide updates as the storm progresses.
