Virginia Man Faces 3-Year Prison Term for DUI and Drug Offenses

NORFOLK, Va. — Kenneth Charles Todd Jr., aged 49, received a three-year and five-month prison sentence after being involved in a drunk-driving accident earlier this year. During the incident, law enforcement discovered a substantial quantity of illegal substances, including cocaine, fentanyl, and MDMA (commonly known as Ecstasy), as well as a stolen firearm in Todd’s vehicle, according to an official statement.

On October 17, Todd admitted guilt to several charges, including possession of Schedule I or II drugs with the intent to distribute, possession of a stolen firearm as a convicted non-violent felon, and driving under the influence.

The events leading to Todd’s arrest occurred on March 23 when a Virginia State Police Trooper was en route to the scene of a traffic accident on I-64. En route, the trooper heard another collision nearby and decided to investigate. Upon arrival, the trooper found Todd in his vehicle, displaying signs of intoxication, such as a strong alcohol odor and bloodshot eyes. Following a failed sobriety test, Todd was arrested for driving under the influence.

A subsequent search of Todd’s vehicle revealed a box containing a digital scale and an oddly weighted water bottle. Upon closer inspection, it was found that the water bottle had a false bottom concealing 227 fentanyl pills, 19 MDMA pills, and 51 grams of cocaine. In addition to the drugs, a stolen firearm was also recovered from the backseat of the vehicle.

Todd’s previous felony conviction in 2005, related to possession of Schedule I or II drugs with the intent to distribute, barred him from possessing a firearm.

As part of Todd’s plea agreement, he was sentenced to a total of 21 years in custody. However, 17 years and seven months of this sentence were suspended contingent upon Todd meeting certain conditions.

These conditions include maintaining good behavior for 15 years, undergoing an indefinite period of supervised probation, paying a $250 fine, forfeiting his driver’s license for one year, participating in the Chesapeake Bay Alcohol Safety Action Program, and refraining from drug or alcohol use.
