Fatal Houston Collision Claims Six Lives, Leaves One Critical: Police Investigate Major Incident

In downtown Houston early Saturday, a “major crash” resulted in the death of at least six people, with another individual in critical condition, as reported by the police.

Around 2 a.m., the Houston Police Department Asst. Chief Megan Howard stated that they responded to a two-vehicle collision. A black Chrysler 300, traveling at a high speed, ran a red light and collided with a black Acura SUV that had the right of way at the intersection.

The impact led to multiple ejections from the vehicles, and the Chrysler veered off the road, hitting a pedestrian on the sidewalk, believed to be a homeless man.

In the collision, five men and one woman lost their lives. At the scene, four people, including the Chrysler driver, two individuals ejected from the Acura, and the pedestrian, were pronounced dead. Two more succumbed to injuries after being transported to local hospitals.

Two additional individuals, a woman with life-threatening injuries and a man, were also taken to hospitals. The man, previously interviewed by officers, is now in stable condition.

The identity of the Acura driver remains uncertain, with Assistant Chief Megan Howard expressing the need for more information from a survivor of the SUV.

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner briefly commented on the tragedy, expressing the difficulty of the situation and emphasizing the youth of the deceased individuals.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is pending verification of the identities of the six deceased persons. The police will release names once all families are notified.

A friend of the homeless man killed shared his account, describing the collision as sounding like “two trains crashing together.” He mentioned being near the victim but having a gut feeling to move just before the incident, expressing gratitude that he wasn’t the one affected.
