California’s First Murder Conviction Linked to Fentanyl: A Pending Sentence for a Defendant

On Friday, a man convicted of second-degree murder in California’s first fentanyl-related homicide case will receive a prison sentence.

Vicente David Romero, 34 years old, was found guilty of murder in August, marking a significant trial for California.

During the trial, Romero admitted to giving Kelsey King, 26 years old, a pill containing fentanyl in Temecula on June 16, 2020. Unfortunately, King died from an overdose of this synthetic opioid, which authorities claim is much more potent than heroin.

Additionally, Romero confessed to other firearm-related offenses.

His court appearance is set for 8:30 a.m., and he could potentially receive a 15-year prison sentence.

The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office states that Romero’s trial is the first of 25 ongoing homicide cases related to fentanyl in Riverside County.
