Teens Must Be Accompanied by an Adult After 4 P.M. At a California Target Store

The Target store at Valley Plaza Mall in Bakersfield has implemented a new policy, effective from 2023, which restricts teens from entering or shopping in the store after 4 PM unless they are accompanied by an adult. The decision has received mixed reactions, with some praising it as a safety measure while others criticize it for unfairly treating well-behaved teens.

According to a report on SFGate.com dated August 5th, the policy change was made in response to incidents of shoplifting and fights involving unaccompanied teens in the evening. Target employees at this location are not allowed to check IDs to verify ages, but they have the authority to remove customers who appear to be 18 or younger.

It’s worth noting that this policy is specific to the Target store at Valley Plaza Mall and is not applicable to other national Target stores or the mall itself.

As of July 17, 2023, there are a total of 1,955 Target stores across the United States. California has the highest number of Target locations, with 319 stores, accounting for approximately 16% of all Target stores in the US, according to the most recent data from ScrapeHero.com.
